My start into second year - Flight Project

September 2013

For the first three weeks into my Extended Diploma the brief I was given was to do with flight. So as a group we all traveled to Cosford RAF Air Field to get a few ideas for what we could make during the three weeks. For my Specialist subjects I decided to chose Photography and Fine Art and for these lessons I developed a range of ideas for the Flight project using all sorts of mediums.

For my Photography lesson I printed out photographs that I had taken at the Cosford RAF Air Field and placed them onto acetate so I could do a contact print in the darkroom, when I got used to doing the basic contact print I then got to experiment with using positive and negative effects and also embossing the images to create the 3D effect my sandwich printing and also I used Cyan and Sepia toning to create tone and highlights within the photograph.

Also I learnt how to make a Pinhole Camera which I enjoyed as it was a challenge and from this I used this to sandwich print with my other first photographs.

For my Fine Art lesson I decided to move away from the whole areoplane idea which many students decided to do because of the Cosford RAF Air Field trip, so sticking to the flight theme I decided to take the inspiration from when I went indoor skydiving and I created an interactive sculpture, however in the end at the exhibition my sculpture did not exhibit as it was a little to technical for the three week time period. If I had more time I would of been able to actually buy a fan to power my sculpture instead of using a hairdryer which I used during my experimentation.
